Her story
Fit to Do Life.
Omena runs, competes, and trains — not to win, but to live fully. Athletics is how she tends to her spirit, soul, and body. Health is the foundation everything else is built on.
"When health is absent, wisdom cannot reveal itself, art cannot manifest, strength cannot fight, wealth becomes useless, and intelligence cannot be applied."
Her Story
Born in Nigeria to two high-achieving parents, Omena came to Canada in her early 20s, eventually settling in Winnipeg after completing her MBA at St. Mary's University in Halifax. She balances a demanding professional career with life as a mother of young adults and a deep, daily commitment to her own wellbeing — not as a luxury, but as the foundation everything else is built on.
Her start in sprinting wasn't glamorous. She came dead last in her first foot race. But she stuck with it — not because she needed to win, but because of how it made her feel. Movement became her anchor: a way to stay mentally sharp, emotionally grounded, and physically strong. After stepping back during her children's early years, she was re-inspired in her late 30s by Saskatchewan sprinting legend Carol LaFayette-Boyd. Those words of encouragement reminded her that it's never too late to show up for yourself.
Most of her training happens in her basement — carved out of a busy schedule that doesn't always allow for track time. When she does get on the track, she makes it count. The medals and records that followed — including a 2025 World Indoor Championships silver medal and Canadian record in the mixed 4x200m relay — are a reflection of what consistent, purposeful movement builds over time, wherever that movement happens. But ask Omena what she's most proud of, and she'll tell you: it's still going. Still moving. Still fit for life.
What Drives Her
Three dimensions of a life fully lived — and the principles that keep them in balance.
Spirit
Movement feeds something deeper than muscle. Time on the track — or in the basement when life demands it — is an act of self-respect. A reminder that she is worth showing up for, regardless of pace or placement.
Soul
Resilience isn't built in a single session. It's built through the quiet decision to keep going — through setbacks, through seasons of rest, through coming last and lining up again anyway.
Body
A body cared for consistently is a body that shows up for life. Not for a podium — for the long run. For the career, the family, the community, and every ordinary extraordinary day.
2025 World Indoor Championships
Silver Medal & a Canadian Record
The mixed 4x200m relay team earned a silver medal and set a new Canadian record at the 2025 World Indoor Championships. It was a beautiful moment — and a natural expression of what years of consistent, wholehearted movement produces, whether on the track or in a basement between meetings. The journey continues at the 2026 World Masters Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea.
"This season was more than just about the medal — it was about growth, teamwork, and community."
